Chris Meinig
Chris has served as Director of Engineering at NOAA’s Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory since 2000. He leads a diversified team of 18 engineers and technicians specializing in the research, development and deployment of ocean instruments and observing systems in support of NOAA’s missions. Supported programs are global in scope and include the following observational arrays: Deep-ocean Assessment and Reporting of Tsunamis (DART); TAO-TRITON in the equatorial Pacific; PIRATA in the Atlantic and Indian oceans; Fisheries-Oceanography Coordinated Investigations (FOCI); Real-time Volcano Seafloor Observatory (NemoNet); Autonomous Underwater Hydrophones. As part of a NOAA team, he received two Department of Commerce Gold Medals for R&D of tsunami measuring and forecasting capabilities.
